Kovai BE grad’s organs donated to seven persons
Doctors at the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) here on Sunday morning harvested the organs of a young engineering graduate who died in a road accident.
Seven of the 21-year-old Saranya’s organs, including her eyes, two heart valves, two kidneys and liver were harvested and will be donated those in dire need of the organs.
Saranya, who had just completed her electronics and communications engineering degree at the Info Institute of Engineering this year, was ready to join a major IT firm at Mysore in a few weeks.
Unfortunately, she was injured in a car accident near Chithode near Perudhurai on June 29. Saranya was travelling with her friends when the mishap took place.
Four of her friends died on the spot, while she was admitted to a private hospital in Erode and brought to Coimbatore in a comatose state on Sunday. Early that morning, doctors at KMCH declared her brain dead.
The members of her family decided to donate her organs as Saranya was known to be a helpful person and had donated blood often.
“The organs of a brain-dead girl(Saranya) were on Sunday harvested and these would benefit seven patients across Tamil Nadu. Two eyes, two heart valves, kidneys and her liver were harvested.
The eyes were donated to the Coimbatore-based Aravind Eye Hospital and other organs were sent to Chennai Apollo hospital,” said V. Kumaran, the dean of KMCH.
Saranya’s father Maniyan, an electrical contractor from Rathinapuri, said that he was proud to donate his daughter’s organs.
“We lost her in the accident but my family members are proud to donate her organs. We can now be at peace that even after the death of my daughter her organs will help seven different people lead a better life,” said Maniyan.
