Kidney racket kingpin’s Oz assets frozen

All the properties owned by the kidney racket kingpin Amit Kumar in Australia have been frozen by the authorities there, as per information received by the Enforcement Directorate here. According to sources, the attached properties of Kumar, include a farmland and a house (worth 6.7 lakh Australian dollar) in Australia. Besides, authorities also attached a cash amount of 2.3 lakh Australian dollars, which belonged to Kumar.
“Authorities concerned in Australia informed that property number 5, Grand Ridge, Sanbarry (Australia) worth `6.7 lakh Aus dollar, owned by Amit Kumar, has been attached. His farmland has also been attached by Australian authorities,” sources said.
“During interrogation on August 8, 2008, Amit Kumar had confessed that he owned a farmland and a house in Australia. He had also confessed he owned properties in Canada and Singapore,” sources said. Efforts are on to have his properties attached in Singapore and Canada too. Sources further said, “Dr Kumar allegedly owns a restaurant worth `7 crores in Canada. The agency concerned in Hong Kong has already been requested to seal the bank account of Dr Kumar in which $54,000 is still lying”.
The properties of the kidney transplant racket kingpin located in Mumbai and Gurgaon (worth `90 crores) had already been attached by the ED in October, 2009. The properties, which had been attached included his hotel located in Andheri West area of Mumbai.
The ED has recently attached properties of Jeevan Kumar, brother of Dr Amit Kumar, also. Properties of Jeevan Kumar which were attached on September 9, 2010, include a flat located in Gurgaon (worth `1 crore) and a plot measuring 4,000 square metre in Greater Noida, sources added. It may be recalled that the 41-year-old tainted doctor was arrested at Chitwan in Nepal on February 7, 2008, by a special team of the Kathmandu Police. Dr Amit and others have been charged under several sections, including violation of the Human Organ Transplant Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Later, the ED also arrested Dr Jeevan Kumar from the Lodhi Road area of South Delhi. Both were arrested after Interpol notices were issued against them.
