Key witness declared hostile
A key witness in the Park Street gangrape case was declared hostile during the trial by a fast track court after his version did not match with the one the detective department (DD) of the Kolkata Police had recorded earlier.
Amar Sharma who was present at the hotel on February 5 when the accused youth had met the victim appeared before the fast track judge of the City Sessions Court on Tuesday.
But when he started narrating the incident public prosecutor Sharbani Bose pointed out inconsistencies in his statement. What Mr Sharma told the court did not match with his previous statement before the DD. She urged the court by filing a petition to declare him hostile.
Ms Bose also cross examined him. The court accepted the appeal and declared Mr Sharma as a hostile witness. The victim will be cross-examined by the counsel of the accused on August 12.
