Key witness in bhanwari case goes missing
On September 1, the day folk singer Bhanwari Devi went missing, two accused in the case, Shahabuddin and Sohan Lal, allegedly took Devi to Bilara, near Jodhpur, in a jeep, sources in the CBI said.
They had installed a CD player inside the jeep to check the CD they wanted from Devi, the sources said. “As per the plan, when Bhanwari refused to give them the CD, they strangled her inside the jeep and handed over her body to a Jodhpur-based gang,” the sources said.
“The agency has identified the gang which reportedly took the body of Devi to an undisclosed location. Agency officials have also detained some members of the gang,” the sources said, adding they are being interrogated further.
Meanwhile, Indira Bishnoi, a key witness in the case, reportedly went missing on Saturday.
“Family members of Indira Bishnoi on Sunday informed the CBI that she was missing,” sources said. Indira, the sister of a Congress MLA, had earlier claimed that Devi had relations with several politicians of Rajasthan, including Mr Maderna.
