Key Cong leaders yet to get Twitter-friendly

Although the number of Twitterati in the Congress is increasing after the party decided to focus on the social media, its senior ministers, chief ministers and CWC members have yet to become familiar with this form of communication.

AICC general secretaries Digvijay Singh, Shakeel Ahmed, Ajay Maken, Union minister Shashi Tharoor tweet on various issues but the party’s real face in states, its chief ministers, have yet to become active in using the social media and thus reconnect with the young generation.
This is because the Congress leaders/workers believe that personal contacts help more than 141-character tweet in election.
The Congress expanded its support-base through cooperative sector, educational institutions. And that is perhaps the reason why mass-based leaders have not attracted towards social media so far.
The Congress has been retaining power in Maharashtra, Assam, Haryana, Delhi because of its strong roots and strong leaders.
Earlier, the BJP too had relied on personal contacts and ideological convictions in building up the organisation. But emergence of Gujarat chief Narendra Modi at the national level is changing the very mindset of the saffron party whose top leaders are now twitting and blog writing.
Meanwhile, Mr Shakeel Ahmed on Sunday sought to ridicule BJP chief Rajnath Singh over the issue of a US visa for Narendra Modi.
“I’m in Canada, near USA. Rajnath Singhji should have been informed that in USA guardians are allowed to apply for visa only for minors,” Mr Ahmed said on microblogging site Twitter.
Mr Singh had said last week that he would take up the visa issue with the US legislators in Washington and “will appeal to the US government to clear the US visa for the Gujarat chief minister”.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
