Ketchup Col. plea dismissed
The Armed Forces Tribunal on Thursday dismissed a review petition filed by former Army officer Col. H.S. Kohli that sought his re-instatement in service. Col. Kohli was earlier dismissed from the Army for the “ketchup” fake kills episode. In August, 2003, officers of the 175 Field Regiment (under the 57 Mountain Division) posted in
Assam had splashed tomato ketchup on soldiers posing as slain militants in order to show a (fake) encounter in the hope of receiving gallantry awards.
Col. Kohli may now petition the Delhi high court, his counsel indicated later.
The ministry of defence had, in 2009, upheld the dismissal of Col. Kohli from service, stating, “As Commanding Officer (CO), Col. H.S. Kohli did not have to obey illegal and unlawful commands of his Brigadier, nor order its execution even if there was organisational pressure on him.
