Kerala flays panel on Mullaperiyar dam
Kerala, coming heavily against the Committee to Coordinate (CTC) under the Supreme Court-appointed Empowered Committee on Mullaperiyar Dam, has accused the committee of denying ‘natural justice’ to
the state, thus hinting that it is biased to Tamil Nadu.
“...incidents of ill treatment are continuing. Being defendant of the Mullaperiyar dispute, State of Kerala shall be fully informed of any visits or tests carried out in Mullaperiyar Dam well in advance. But unfortunately natural justice is being denied to the state of Kerala,” said one of the two strongly worded letters, sent by Kerala to the Chairman of CTC CD Thatte.
In the letters dated October 14, Kerala has also questioned the panel’s claim that the final report of the committee could be prepared by the end of December 2011.
The committee can finalise the report by December only if it ‘compromises on the most dependable and useful study’ on the safety of the dam, Kerala argued.
