Kerala Congress nominee to get sports portfolio
V. Surendran Pillai, the Kerala Congress (Thomas) faction nominee to be inducted into the state cabinet, would be given Sports and Youth Affairs portfolio.
CPI-M’s M. Vijayakumar, who is in charge of sports now, would be given Public Works, which Kerala Congress (J) leader P.J. Joseph held before he quit the cabinet and the LDF two months back.
The decision on allocation of these portfolios was taken by the CPI-M state secretariat on Friday evening and later got the endorsement of other LDF partners, LDF sources said.
The Kerala Congress faction led by former union minister P.C. Thomas was earlier this month made a partner in the front.
Pillai, who represents Thiruvananthapuram West segment in the Assembly, was the lone Kerala Congress MLA who declined to go with Mr Joseph, who dissolved the party led by him and joined the Kerala Congress (Mani) to become part of the Congress-led UDF a few months back.
Finance minister T.M. Thomas Isaac had been holding the additional charge of Public Works after Mr Jospeh quit the cabinet.
