Kerala asks govt employees to reduce cellphone usage at work
The state government has asked its employees to curb the use of mobile phones during work hours.
The curb put in place in the name of improving efficiency in government offices comes at a time when the government is going ahead with m-governance in 90 government departments employing wireless and mobile technology services, applications and devices for governance.
This is so even as the state government had provided mobile connections to many officials in these departments as part of m-governance.
The government had issued an order of the same kind, based on the recommendations of the Administrative Reforms Committee, in February.
However, the order did not have the desired effect. The new order said there were numerous complaints from the public that officials engaged in private calls on their mobile phones while at work.
