Kerala asks Centre to restore its kerosene quota

Asking Centre to restore kerosene quota to the state, Congress-led UDF government in Kerala on Monday decided to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take up the issue.

Replying to a submission in the assembly, State Food and Civil Supplies Minister T M Jacob said the kerosene quota of ration card holders was cut from two litres to one recently in view of Centre's decision.

The state was getting 23760 kilolitre of kerosene in March 2010 and it was cut to 15,970 kilolitre this month, he said to the submission of P S Sulekha (CPI-M). Jacob said the state wanted Centre to allot sete quota for domestic distribution and for use of fishing activities by fishermen.

The state was now allocating the fuel to fishermen from the domestic quota, he said. Sulekha wanted the state to restore the two litre quota for ration card holders.
