KCR to party: Get set for snap polls
Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Wednesday said mid-term polls seemed imminent with the Congress government of the state on the verge of collapse.
He also said that former Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was emerging as a new force in the Seema-Andhra region.
Mr Rao told a closed-door meeting of the TRS state committee that the party should be prepared to face a snap poll given the current political scenario.
Mr Rao confided to his colleagues that Jagan already had the support of 25 MLAs and the figure could go up to 70 MLAs. “He will sweep Seema-Andhra and the TRS will be victorious in Telangana if a snap poll is held,” he added.
However, the TRS floor leader in the Assembly, Mr Etala Rajender, immediately refuted Mr Rao’s reported comments on Jagan that were flashed by some TV channels and said the party chief only stated that a mid-term poll looked imminent.
Later addressing a meeting wherein where some Telugu Desam Party and Praja Rajyam leaders joined the TRS, Mr Rao asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to keep his promise made in Parliament to carve out Telangana.
He also criticised the deployment of Central forces on the eve of submission of the report by the Srikrishna Committee.
