Karuna threatens self-immolation

DMK president M. Karunanidhi said on Thursday he would commit self-immolation if the government converted Chennai’s Anna Centenary Library into a hospital.

“The day Jayalalithaa demolishes the library to make it a hospital, I will commit self-immolation,” he told a rally in support of DMK candidate for the Sankarankoil bypoll J. Jawahar Suryakumar.

“This is my tribute to my mentor Anna,” the emotional octogenarian ex-CM declared.

Apparently irked by the recent stand of the AIADMK government that court cannot interfere in its policy decision to convert the library into hospital, Mr Karuna-nidhi said the case would be fought even in the Supreme Court.
