Karuna may sue AIADMK over ‘malicious’ campaign
Chief minister M. Karunanidhi on Monday threatened to sue the Opposition AIADMK for “spreading falsehood” that the ruling DMK was destroying and tampering with some important files on the pretext of shifting them to the new secretariat.
Responding to a question posed by reporters here in this connection, Mr Karunanidhi referred to the petition AIADMK leaders submitted about “file tampering” with the state chief electoral officer on Sunday and said the AIADMK and its general secretary Jayalalithaa were attempting to divert public attention by spreading falsehood as usual against the DMK.
“No one can tolerate the falsehood she and her party is spreading about this government and me. Hence, the government has initiated the process of taking legal steps,” he asserted.
Criticising the AIADMK for describing his government as “caretaker government” in its petition to the EC, Mr Karunanidhi said only the government allowed by the governor to ensure smooth administration during the period between declaration of results and formation of a new government is called caretaker government.
On the Lankan Tamils issue, the DMK patriarch by far preferred to be non-committal. Evading a flurry of queries pertaining to the UN report indicting Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa for war crimes and the demand for making him stand trial in the international court, Mr Karunanidhi only cared to say, “They (AIADMK) do not even know what Lankan Tamils issue is MGR knew.”
When asked about his ally and PMK founder Ramadoss demanding Rajapaksa’s trial for war crimes, he said, “I do not differ with him on this issue. The important aspect is how and when to raise it.”
