Kalmadi aide custody extended
A Delhi court on Thursday extended the CBI custody of Shekhar Deorukhkar, former Commonwealth Games (CWG) OC chief Suresh Kalmadi’s aide, by two more days till February 19, for his alleged role in the multi-crore rupees overlays scam in the 2010 biggest sporting extravaganza.
Allowing the plea of the CBI, which sought two day extension of Deorukhkar’s custody, Special CBI Judge O.P. Saini said, “Considering the nature of the case and the allegations levelled against the accused, I am satisfied that further police custodial interrogation is required to unearth the entire conspiracy. Accused is remanded in the CBI custody till February 19.”
The accused was arrested by the CBI on February 11 from Pune. While seeking extension of remand for Deorukhkar, the CBI in its four-page remand application, told the court that the probe in the case was not yet complete and the accused was not answering properly during the custodial interrogation. Senior public prosecutor V.K. Sharma and Akhilesh, appearing for the CBI, said, “The accused is evasive in his replies and is not cooperating with the investigating agency and his further sustained custodial interrogation is required.”
The CBI said, “There is sufficient evidence on record which confirm that the accused has accepted huge bribe amounts.”
