Jundal gives details of LeT network in Saudi
Syed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal returned to Saudi Arabia after the fresh plan to attack India was put on hold. “He claims he has no clue as to what happened to the module that was trained to carry out the attack,” a top intelligence official said.
Based on Jundal’s interrogation, Indian intelligence agencies are preparing a detailed dossier which will be handed over to the Saudi security establishment about the vast LeT network in their country. Jundal disclosed Lashkar has a formidable network in Saudi Arabia and that country was the biggest source of funding for the outfit.
The suspect has given names of a number of front organisations floated by LeT in Saudi Arabia that raises funds through donations. During sustained interrogation, Jundal also revealed that a large amount of money was being sent to Indians for terror activities through the hawala network in Saudi Arabia and Dubai. Much of the money was routed through Mumbai and Kerala.
“Since a number of people from Kerala are working in the Gulf countries, it is much easier to route the money from there,” a Delhi police special cell official remarked. During his stay in Pakistan, Jundal married a girl, Mariam, in Karachi, in an attempt to obtain Pakistani citizenship. He claimed that the ISI’s Karachi control room was dismantled after the Mumbai attack ended.
