Joshi: PC failed on every front
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and chairman of Public Accounts Committee of Parliament Murli Manohar Joshi on Sunday questioned home minister P. Chidambaram’s earlier role as finance minister and accused him of involvement in the 2G spectrum and KG (Krishna-Godavari) basin gas scams.
The BJP leader focused attention on the latest Mumbai blasts and said that Mr Chidambaram is responsible for intelligence failure which has a direct bearing on the country’s security. Mr Joshi targeted the home minister at a press conference held at the BJP headquarters here.
He said that Mr Chidambaram’s statement after the Mumbai blasts that there was no intelligence input in this regard shows the level of government’s preparedness to face any security threat. It also demonstrates the inherent weakness of the government machinery.
Mr Joshi said that Mr Chidambaram has failed on every front.
Accusing him of involvement in the 2G spectrum scam, the BJP leader said that the report of the Comptroller and Auditor-General of India (CAG), which the Union government has so far failed to table in Parliament but has leaked in media, goes on to expose how private companies have been benefited by the UPA government on the production-sharing contracts for the KG basin gas and also puts Mr Chidambaram in his earlier capacity as finance minister in the dock.
