JNU student arrested in connection with sex scandal
Delhi police has arrested a 23-year-old JNU student allegedly involved in the sex scandal that rocked the University early this year.
Janardan Kumar, originally from Gaya in Bihar, is allegedly involved in recording an objectionable video clipping of a fellow student of Jawaharlal Nehru University, police said.
Kumar was earlier expelled along with another student by JNU authorities after the incident came to light and was probed in an internal inquiry, a report of which was forwarded to the Delhi police.
As police launched its investigation, they found that Kumar had intimate relations with the girl whom he knew for some years, and had recorded an obscene video clipping involving the two.
The videography was then converted into a video file with the help of his friend Balbir and circulated in the campus when Kumar's relations with the girl had strained. Police said further investigation is on to recover the laptop, camera and other accessories used in the incident.
Following the JNU internal inquiry, Kumar and Balbir were expelled while another student Rahul, whose room was used in the episode, was suspended in February. JNU also filed an official complaint with the police while submitting a report of their own inquiry.
Following his expulsion, Kumar went to Nawada in Bihar where he opened a coaching centre. Police said he joined the investigation on Friday after police launched a manhunt for him.
