Jet crew suspended for false alarm
New Delhi, Aug. 28: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Saturday ordered suspension of both the pilots as well as the cabin crew following indications that a false alarm of fire had led to the panic on board a Jet Airways aircraft at the Mumbai airport on Friday, resulting in injuries to some passengers during the aircraft evacuation.
The suspensions of 10 crew members were ordered after the preliminary fact-finding of the DGCA found “serious procedural lapses in dealing with the emergency and evacuation situation… by the operating aircraft crew members of the Jet airways flight 9W2302.”
There were 131 passengers on board the aircraft that was on a scheduled flight from Mumbai to Chennai.. It is being categorised as a “serious incident” by the DGCA, which ordered removal of the Cockpit Voice Recorder and the Digital Flight Data Recorder from the aircraft for the probe. Following the incident, a worried DGCA has called for a meeting of the heads of training of all airlines to review the training procedures of cabin and flight crews.
