JD-U slams Cong on NCTC impasse
Riding high on Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s opposition to the formation of NCTC and similar resistance from some other states, the JD(U) on Sunday mounted scathing criticism on the Congress and ridiculed a proposed meeting of state officials in New Delhi.
“The NCTC impasse is the latest symbol of the Congress party’s historic attitude towards the idea of federalism. The Congress has never given any sanctity and sanction to the states and their rights as enshrined in the Constitution. It has always considered these tenets an obstacle to its ruling the nation,” said JD(U) Rajya Sabha member and party national spokesman Shivanand Tiwary.
Pointing at such “anti-state policies” beginning with the first-ever general elections, Mr Tiwary cited the examples such as C. Rajagopalachari having been invited to form a government in Madras province after the Congress failed to garner a majority and the dismissal later of the first Communist state government.
“The Congress still suffers from an outdated mentality while today the states are regularly forming non-Congress governments. The Congress fails to realise that state governments can be as sensitive to serious issues such as security to the nation just like the Centre,” said Mr Tiwary, a close confidante of Nitish Kumar.
Describing the proposed meeting of the police chiefs and chief secretaries of the states later March as a “challenge to the states,” Mr Tiwary said, “This meeting, convened after insensitively sidelining the states, produces grave concerns. The emerging message says the Centre plans to run the administration by direct contacts with these officials”.
