Jayalalithaa to keep her poll promises
Touring around villages in Srirangam Assembly constituency on Monday and thanking voters for giving her a popular mandate in the recent assembly elections, chief minister J. Jayalalithaa assured them that all her poll promises would be fulfilled in a phased manner.
Accompanied by her aide Sasikala and senior AIADMK ministers Sengottayan, Vaithilingam and N. R. Sivapathy, Jayalalithaa began her trip from the city around 4 p.m and made her first halt at Kambarasanpettai.
“I thank you all for giving me this victory. I wanted to meet you all and express my gratitude,” she told the cheering crowd.
Even as the villagers – men, women and children – were applauding she continued, “I had announced development projects to the tune of `190 crore as a first step. I will implement more schemes as I had promised during my election campaign,’’ she told them.
She visited around a dozen villages including Muthrasanallur, Allur, Thiruparaithurai, perugamani, Pettavaithalai, Kuzhumani, Koppu and Ettarai making brief halts there to address the cheering public.
She concluded her trip at Somarasanpettai around 7 pm.
The villages wore a look of festivity even though she had instructed her cadres not to erect billboards or put up banners. Villagers had organized traditional music events, light music and even karagattam.
Jayalalithaa, who was visibly happy on seeing a large turn out of villagers, waved hands towards the people and thanked them with folded hands.
She also received petitions from the villagers with a smile.
