Jaya turns down SP RS ticket offer

Jaya Bachchan has turned down the Samajwadi Party ticket for the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh. SP spokesman Mohan Singh will now be the candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat.

In an informal chat with reporters on Friday, Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav indicated that Ms Bachchan had expressed her inability to contest the Rajya Sabha seat due to “family reasons”.
Ms Bachchan’s decision not to accept the offer comes after expelled SP leader Amar Singh’s meeting with Ms Bachchan’s husband, Amitabh Bachchan.
Ms Bachchan’s refusal is being seen as a major victory of sorts for Mr Amar Singh who was instrumental in bringing Ms Bachchan into the SP.
He had made his displeasure clear when Ms Bachchan did not quit the party following his expulsion in January this year.
