Jaya in SP national executive
Former MP and actor Jaya Bachchan has been nominated as a member of the Samajwadi Party’s national executive that was announced on Saturday.
The move is bound to irk former SP leader Amar Singh and further widen the rift between the latter and the Bachchan family which started showing up when Ms Jaya Bachchan refused to quit the Samajwadi Party in support of Mr Amar Singh.
Ms Jaya Bachchan’s nomination from Maharashtra comes as a surprise since she has not been active in the Samajwadi party since last year when she “politely” turned down the party’s offer of nomination her to the Rajya Sabha.
“It is obvious that she has been nominated to send a message to Amar Singh — more so, since she is the only one to be nominated to the national executive from Maharashtra,” said a senior SP leader. The national executive, meanwhile, has Brij Bhushan Tiwari as vice president.

Amarinder mocks Badal ‘sleepovers’
AGE CORRESPONDENT
CHANDIGARH
July 9: Mocking chief minister Parkash Singh Badal’s on his “luxurious village sleepovers” Punjab Congress chief Capt. Amarinder Singh said, “instead of sleeping in the air-conditioned comfort specially created for him in the villages, Mr Badal should consider spending a few of his waking hours trying to address villagers’ problems.”
Meanwhile, trying to set the record right on his rural night halts, the CM seems to have queered things even more when he told reporters, Saturday, “I am used to sleeping in even more maari (worse) places,” inadvertently acknowledging the terrible state of Punjab’s villages.
