Jaya Prada to join Congress, Nagam BJP
Hyderabad: Expelled Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Prada met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Thursday and reportedly revealed her intention to join the Congress.
Sources close to the actor-turned-MP from Rampur who was away in Delhi and not available for comment, said that political developments in AP and those in UP, particularly the police harassment to which she was subjected, led her to join the Congress.
She had told this newspaper on her birthday recently that she planned to join “some national party” and make the announcement by April end. She gave indications that she would prefer the BJP to the Congress due to her closeness to top BJP leaders. But on Thursday, it is reliably learnt that Jaya Prada went to 10, Janpath, and met the Congress chief for over 20 minutes.
Jaya Prada had on several earlier occasions issued statements that she would enter AP politics. Rumour has it that as she belongs to Rajahmundry Lok Sabha seat, she would prefer to contest from the same seat, which is presently held by Congress MP Undavalli Arun Kumar. who was elected from there twice successively.
Nagam meets Rajnath, all set to join BJP
Telangana Nagara Samiti president and Nagarkurnool independent MLA Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy is all set to join the BJP and contest from the Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha seat, presently held by TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Reports of Nagam joining the BJP have been doing the rounds for some time. On Thursday along with BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy, Nagam Janardhan Reddy met BJP national president Rajnath Singh, and had a one-hour long meeting with him.
Later, speaking to newsmen he said that he will go back to people of the constituency and consult with them before joining the BJP.
“I have not taken a final decision to join the BJP, but will take some time to decide,” he told media in Delhi. He said that it was very clear that the Congress is not going to grant a Telangana despite its promises.
“T-state is only possible with the BJP; Telangana people should wholeheartedly support BJP candidates in Telangana,” he added.
However, Kishan Reddy confirmed the fact that Nagam was joining the BJP and said that they only discussed modalities.
Nagam, a five-time MLA from Nagarkurnool, was in the TD for most part of his 35-political career. He left the TD due to differences with TD supremo Chandrababu Naidu.

Later, he started the Telangana Nagara Samithi along with TD MLAs K. Hariswara Reddy who later joined the TRS and S. Venugopala Chary who was suspended from the party.
BJP leader A P Jitender Reddy who was MP from Mehbubnagar earlier, switched loyalties to the TD and later to the TRS and has been cleared by KCR as the TRS nominee for the
Mehbubnagar Lok Sabha seat. Reports suggest that Nagam's son is eyeing the Nagarkurnool Assembly seat in his father’s place.
