Jaya mum to queries on 2G
AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa has preferred to reserve her comments on DMK’s open support to its party MP and chief minister M. Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi, saying the matter is sub judice.
“The matter is before the court and the orders have been reserved. So, I will reserve my comments until the court decides (on it) on May 14,” Ms Jayalalithaa said upon returning to Chennai from Kodanad via Coimbatore on Monday morning.
She, however, refused to be drawn into any controversy when mediapersons persistently sought her remarks on the DMK’s support to Ms Kanimozhi, even as the suspense on whether the MP would be jailed for her alleged role in the multi-crore 2G spectrum scam continues.
Ms Jayalalithaa had earlier demanded her arrest and had even faulted the DMK chief for what she termed “convoluted defence of his daughter” accused in the 2G spectrum scandal.
“You will know when the results are out,” was her cryptic reply when scribes asked about the political fortunes of the AIADMK. The counting of votes for the Assembly election will take place on May 13. On the security arrangement put in place by the ECI in view of the counting of votes, the former CM said she was satisfied with the arrangements. “We are happy with the arrangements,” she added.
Meanwhile, Ms Jayalalithaa appealed to her party members to establish water and butter milk booths at various places and quench the thirst of the people who have been reeling under the scorching sun.
