Jawan dies in Kandhamal
A paramilitary trooper was on Monday night killed and five others were injured when Maoist militants launched an ambush in Kerubadi forest areas in Kandhamal district, nearly 350 km from Bhubaneswar, inspector-general of police (operations) Sanjeev Marik said on Tuesday.
R.B.H. Thakuri from Manipur, was killed while returning from a combing operation in the area.
“The rebels had laid down an ambush plan in Daringbadi area to inflict severe casualties. Our jawans belonging to India Reserve Battalion not only successfully penetrated the ambush design but also foiled it. There are not many such instances in the country where the jawans frustrated ambush designs very effectively. One of jawans attained martyrdom during the exchange of fire,” Mr Marik said.
Thakuri’s body was sent to his native place in Manipur.
