Jairam again pushes Maya on CBI probe
Stepping up pressure on Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati, Union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh has shot off a 14-page letter to her, giving details of irregularities in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National
Rural Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in the state where no action was taken by the state government.
The war of words between Mr Ramesh and Ms Mayawati does not appear headed for any resolution, as it is being raised as a big election issue by the Congress to put the ruling BSP in the dock.
In his letter, Mr Ramesh has again sought the state government’s consent for a CBI inquiry into irregularities in the districts, where he noted the officials responsible had escaped punishment.
