Jailed Ulfa leaders may float party
Before giving their consent for talks, the jailed Ulfa leaders are said to have prepared a blue print for launching a new political outfit that would be acting as an alternative to the regional Asom Gana Parishad in Assam.
If insiders are to be believed the Ulfa chairman Arbinda Rajkhowa who was facilitated all kinds of facilities inside the jail had a wide consultation with a cross-section of people to decide their future course of action and gave a final touch to their action plan.
Two of his front men and Ulfa vice-chairman Pradip Gogoi and publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary were also allowed to get enlarged on bail for consultation besides eliciting the opinion of the people about the pro-talk faction of the outfit.
Most of the senior leaders of the outfit, which includes Ulfa chairman, deputy commander-in-chief Raju Baruah, foreign secretary Sasha Choudhury, finance secretary Chitraban Hazarika, and cultural secretary Pranati Deka, are inside the jail. They are hopeful of an early release from the jail as they have already expressed their willingness to resolve the decades-old conflict through talks with the government.
The security agencies are also keeping a close watch over the developments inside the jail, but they refused to talk on these developments, which has been kept a guarded secret with an obvious objective to avoid any embarrassment for Ulfa leaders before their release from the jail.
Though, time and date for launching the political outfit will be decided only after their release from the jail.
