It’s victory for democracy: BJP

An upbeat BJP on Monday claimed that the bypoll results of Hisar, Khadakwasla and Daraunda are a “reminder” to the Congress-led UPA that people voted against them because of its inefficiency to keep a check on corruption.

Thanking voters for electing BJP-HJC candidate Kuldeep Bishnoi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said, “The BJP-HJC alliance will continue in future also.” Senior BJP leader M.M. Joshi said the result clearly showed that the people have voted against the Congress policies in tackling corruption. “This is a victory for democracy,” he said.
Though the BJP hailed the victory of its candidates in various bypolls as people’s verdict against a “corrupt” government at the Centre, it refrained from attributing the victory to Team Anna which campaigned in Hisar against the ruling party candidate.
While HJC-BJP candidate Kuldeep Bishnoi won the Hisar Lok Sabha seat, BJP-Shiv Sena-RPI candidate won the Khadakwasla seat in Maharashtra. BJP ally JD(U)’s candidate won the Daraunda Assembly seat in Bihar.
“This is an auspicious day for democracy. Congress, which is neck-deep in corruption, has lost the Hisar seat. Our candidates have won in Daraunda and Khadakwasla. This is a victory of the people and of those who are raising their voice against corruption,” said BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.
When asked whether his party will give some credit to Team Anna, Mr Hussain said, “I have read Anna’s statements. He has appealed not for the victory of any candidate but for the defeat of a party.” He further said, “The real test in a democracy is through votes.”
Reiterating that it will have “zero tolerance” against corruption, the party alleged that the Congress failed to act against its “corrupt” leaders.
