ISI funds LeT for anti-India operations
New Delhi: India is expected to confront Pakistan with fresh evidence of terrorist infrastructure flourishing on its soil as soon as the composite dialogue between the two countries is on track.
The Union home ministry has armed itself with fresh evidence of as many as 22 terror training camps of the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba active on Pakistani soil.
The Central agencies have said that the Pakistan Army, which has been leading the offensive against the Indian Army on the LoC, is relying heavily on the LeT, to execute the brutal attacks on Indian soldiers.
Top security officials said the Pakistan Army considers the LeT to be more disciplined among the terror outfits operating against India.
This is being seen as the reason why the LeT is flush with funds from the Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI, to raise the temperature in India by carrying out strikes.
Top government sources said that Pakistan proposed to begin the bilateral dialogue as early as this month but India has pushed it further owing to the escalating tension along the LoC.
While a final decision on resumption of the bilateral dialogue is yet to be taken at the highest forum, there are indications that the much delayed home secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan may take place at the earliest in October, if the tension on the LoC subsides.
“We will confront Pakistan with evidence to show that little has been done to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure operating on its soil,” a top security official said.
For now, all eyes are on the meeting between Prime Minister Manm-ohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif who are expected to meet on the sidelines of UN General Assembly next month in New York.
Top government officials said “peace and tranquility” on the border will play a major role in New Delhi’s decision to resume talks.
