IOA: Govt move may hurt CWG

New Delhi, May 4: The battle between the Indian Olympic Association and the sports ministry intensified on Tuesday with the IOA taking refuge under the Olympic Charter, as it has done in the past, to counter the government’s guidelines on the tenure of top sports officials.
The IOA said if the government went ahead, it would put October’s Commonwealth Games in jeopardy and force the International Olympic Committee to suspend the national governing body.
Armed with letters of support from the IOC and the Olympic Council of Asia, the IOA asked the government not to intervene in its affairs, otherwise it would be read as a violation of the Olympic Charter.
