Inter girl jumps off auto to escape rape bid
Warangal: A 17-year-old Intermediate girl student of Pragyna Junior College escaped a kidnap-and-rape bid by jumping out of a fast-moving autorickshaw at Sarvapuram village on the outskirts of Narsempet town on Monday.
Passersby who were initially startled to see a girl jumping out of a moving autorickshaw on Monday morning, showed presence of mind, and immediately surrounded the autorickshaw while others rushed to the girl who escaped with scratches on the entire left side of her body.
Sources said that the girl, a resident of Gurijala village in Chennaraopet mandal, travels to her college every day in a bus up to Narsampet town before taking a one-and-a-half-km autorickshaw ride to reach her college on the outskirts of Narsampet.
On Monday, when she boarded an autorickshaw for her college, she sensed something amiss when the driver Punjala Ramesh and his friend Golkonda Ashok, reportedly took the vehicle past her college.
Locals surround auto, nab accused
Police sources said that the two men, who made a kidnap-and-rape bid on an Intermediate girl student on Monday, belonged to the girl’s village and wanted to take her towards the Pakhal Lake, an isolated route without much habitation.
As Sarvapuram village on the outskirts of Narsampet town is said to be the only habitation before the isolated Pakhal Lake route, the girl jumped from the moving autorickshaw. The two assailants were handed over to Narsampet police.
“We have registered two cases under the Indian Penal Code Sections 365 (kidnapping) and 354 (intent to outrage modesty) against the two,” said Narsempet CI K. Sivasambi Reddy.
