INLD MLA is shot, injured in his office
An INLD MLA from Najafgarh area, Bharat Singh, 35, and one of his relatives, Dharampal, were shot and injured in his office in Najafgarh’s Sarangpur village at 8.30 am Saturday. Both were rushed to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital and are in critical condition. Dharampal was shifted to AIIMS.
The police suspects personal rivalry may be behind the attack. No arrests have yet been made.
Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit discussed the security scenario with the police commissioner as well as the demand that MLAs be provided personal security officers.
The police said four to five people shot at Mr Singh. Dharampal, who had come to meet Mr Singh, was injured when he tried to save the MLA.
“Half a dozen people were at the MLA’s office when the attackers came and his supporters tried to save him. The attackers chased him and shot him inside the office. The assailants fled on bikes and in cars,” a senior police official said. The special cell and crime branch will handle the case.
