Inflation at 6-month high of 6.1%
Inflation based on the wholesale price index accelerated to a six-month high at 6.1 per cent in August due to soaring food prices and high fuel costs.
An unstable rupee and now high inflation means that the RBI is unlikely to cut interest rates on Friday when it reviews the monetary policy. As compared to last year, food prices in August overall rose by 18.18 per cent, a three-year high.
Onion prices were up by 244.62 per cent. Vegetable prices increased by 77.81 per cent.
