Inflation at 5-month high of 5.7%
New Delhi: Inflation, based on wholesale price index, shot up to a five-month high of 5.79 per cent in July due to increase in the price of onions and vegetables.
The onion prices have risen by 145 per cent in July and vegetables by 46.59 per cent. With prices of onions soaring to around Rs 70 per kilogram, the government on Wednesday assured the state governments that it would find out a solution to contain it.
Minister of state for consumer affairs, food and public distribution K.V. Thomas said that he was in touch with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and authorities in other states to find out an immediate solution to the crisis.
