Industry plans to felicitate Didi

City-based seven industry and trade chambers are jointly planning to felicitate Mamata Banerjee after the oath-taking ceremony of the next government with Ms Banerjee as the chief minister.

The mega felicitation programme is being planned by May-end.
A senior official of the Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce (MCC) said, “The MCC is planning to organise the felicitation programme with other six chambers in the city. Earlier, we had felicitated Meira Kumar also after she became the first woman Speaker of the Lok Sabha.”
Besides MCC, the other six prominent industry and trade chambers in the city are Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Indian Chamber of Commerce, Bharat Chamber of Commerce, Calcutta Chamber of Commerce and Oriental Chamber of Commerce.
Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who was the face of the industrialisation in Bengal, was not felicitated by the chambers jointly after leading the Left Front to a landslide victory in the 2006 Assembly polls.
The official said: “She has created history after defeating the Left Front single-handedly.”
