Industrialist ‘rapes’ RJ at rave party
A radio jockey (RJ), working with a reputed FM channel, was allegedly raped by an industrialist at a rave party at his upscale residence in south Kolkata. The accused, in his 60s, is absconding. Sources indicated that the accused had fled to the US.
On June 29 night, the industrialist had thrown a rave party at his palatial residence.
The RJ, known to him, was invited along with other guests. She walked into the industrialist’s flat after 9 pm. A Bengali actress, who has worked both in Bollywood and Tollywood movies, had also attended the party, sources revealed.
Preliminary investigations suggest, while partying, the RJ took a party drug — amphetamines — and fell unconscious. Taking advantage of her condition, the industrialist took her in another room and raped her, a DD officer said.
When the RJ regained sense, the accused tried to convince her to forget the episode. But the victim left the place soon. Sensing trouble, the accused reportedly engaged his two aides to pacify her from going to the police and even offered money.
On July 10, the RJ finally lodged a complaint of rape with the Shakespeare Sarani police station and a case under Section 376 of the IPC was initiated, deputy commissioner of police (south) D.P. Singh said on Monday. The DD later took over the case.
In the meantime, the industrialist has also moved a city court for anticipatory bail which was rejected.
