India, Trinidad and Tobago ink key pacts to boost bilateral trade

India inked key deals with Trinidad and Tobago in the realms of Information Technology and trade on Friday in an effort to boost diplomatic and economic ties.

Diplomats and senior officials from both nations signed five agreements at the culmination of delegation level discussions held between Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his counterpart from Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, in New Delhi.

The pacts broadly envisage greater bilateral cooperation in the fields of culture, business and economic engagements, medicine and education.

Officials from Trinidad and Tobago and India signed the agreements, even as the two Prime Ministers looked on.

Though India and Trinidad and Tobago have strong historical and cultural links, the volume of bilateral trade remains significantly low as compared to India''s economic engagements with other nations.

Trinidad and Tobago has a population of 1.3 million, and over 40 percent of them are of Indian origin and an equal per cent African.
