India offers 2 sets of dates for Pak talks
India has proposed two sets of dates in March end for the proposed home secretary level talks to Pakistan. The dates March 21-22 and March 28-29 were communicated to Pakistan last week. Official sources said that home secretary G.K. Pillai has extended an invitation to Pakistan interior secretary Chaudhry Qamar Zaman, however, a
response from Islamabad is awaited. This will be the first structured bilateral secretary-level meeting on counter-terrorism after the recent Indo-Pak decision to resume comprehensive talks. It may be recalled that India had suspended composite dialogue with Pakistan in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Issues related to progress in Mumbai terror attacks trial, India’s long pending demand for voice samples of 26/11 accused, Pakistan’s request to send a judicial commission to India and New Delhi’s keeness to send a team to question the 26/11 accused in that country, fake Indian currency and cross border infiltration are some of the issues expected to come up for discussion.
India has been demanding voice samples of the prime accused of Mumbai attacks case, LeT terrorist Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, and others giving instructions to the ten terrorists who attacked Mumbai.
A Rawalpindi court is hearing a case against Lakhvi and six of his accomplices, who have been charged with planning and facilitating the 26/11 strikes.
