India may give Jundal access to FBI
In what could furthur boost ties between India and the United States in counter terror cooperation, India may give access to the Federal Bureau of Investigation to question 26/11 handler Abu Jundal soon.
The Indian agencies will also fully cooperate and provide all details and evidence following Jundal’s arrest to the FBI to aid the 26/11 probe in the United States. Notably, US agencies had helped India in capturing Jundal.
The American agencies have now sought the cooperation of Indian agencies to question Jundal, the sources said. “We do not have any problem coooperating with the US agencies in Jundal’s case. We are considering their requests positively,” an official said.
Intelligence officials said that access to Jundal will provide the FBI further insight into the 26/11 conspiracy, hatched in Pakistan, which also claimed lives of US citizens.
The American agency is also keen to get a deeper insight into the global network of the Laskhar-e-Tayyaba besides LeT’s links with the Pakistan’s ISI and other ‘’state actors.’’
Sources pointed towards the close co-ordination between India and the United States on counter-terror related efforts, following the arrest of 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab during 26/11 when investigators from the FBI were able to question Kasab.
Kasab’s questioning by the FBI had confirmed to the US that Kasab is a Pakistani national and that the 26/11 terror strike was planned and executed by the LeT.
