Imran Khan survives fall
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan on Tuesday survived a dangerous fall from about 20 feet as he was being lifted to the top of the stage to address an election rally in Lahore.
“Imran Khan has head injuries but he is safe and out of danger,” a doctor who administered initial treatment said in Lahore. “He is conscious and talking. Stitches have been applied to his wounds. He should be all right soon,” he added.
After the fall, the semi-conscious cricketer-turned politician was rushed to hospital. “He is being shifted to Shaukat Khanum Hospital for CT scans and MRI. Since he is conscious and speaking, there should be no pessimism,” the doctor said.
Mr Khan fell after wooden planks on the “lifter” grew unbalanced due to an increase in weight as his security personnel accompanied him to the stage. Three security personnel were also injured.
Party leaders said they would investigate the matter. “It was an accident, there is no conspiracy,” PTI Punjab president Ejaz Chaudhry said.
