IM operatives trained in Pak
The two alleged Indian Mujahideen operatives arrested by the crime branch on Tuesday were part of the sleeper cells of the terror outfit and had received training in terror activities way back in 2000, sources said.
The ATS has been questioning the two to find out if they have any connection with the July 13 triple blasts that rocked the city.
Haroon Rashid Abdul Hamid Naik and Asrar Ahmed Abdul Hamid Tailor have been arrested under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act by the ATS in a fake currency case.
“The duo has been questioned in the July 13 bomb blasts case but nothing concrete has emerged yet,” said a source.
The source added, “The two were part of the sleeper cell of the IM.”
The source said that the two who were originally the members of banned outfit Students’ Islamic Movement of India had joined IM after it was formed recently.
According to the source, Naik had sent Tailor to Pakistan for terror training in 2000. Tailor had three criminal cases registered against him since 2006, including one with the ATS.
The ATS has also claimed that Tailor had confessed to having been involved in the distribution of fake currency notes along with Naik, to whom he imparted computer training.
The ATS has been burning the midnight oil searching for clues in the blasts probe.
Though it has not openly stated which terror outfit was responsible for the blasts, the investigating agency suspects that the IM may have triggered the explosions.
