Illegal import of luxury cars: Kingpin held
The directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) has arrested Sumit Walia, kingpin of the well-organised gang involved in the illegal import of luxury cars and high-end motor bikes into the country.
According to sources, acting on a tip-off, officials of the Central revenue agency arrested Walia, a resident of Vasant Vihar area of South Delhi, on Saturday. He was running a syndicate that illegally imported foreign-made luxury cars. The agency officials recently arrested some members of the gang and recovered more than 40 luxury cars and high-end motor bikes being brought to India, allegedly by evading import duty.
Imported cars and motorcycles had been seized following DRI operations in Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh. Sources in the agency said, “The agency officials are also trying to find out the identity of their clients.”

IPS held for Dara Singh encounter

May 15: The CBI on Thursday arrested an IPS officer, A. Ponnnuchami, for his alleged involvement in connection with a fake encounter of Dara Singh, alias Dariya, in the outskirts of Jaipur in October 2006. The CBI had already arrested four policemen, including two inspectors.The Supreme court had ordered a CBI investigation in the encounter while Daiya s wife Sushila moved the court and sought CBI probe.
According to the sources, the CBI summoned inspector-general of police A. Ponnuchami to appear on Sunday and, subsequently, arrested the officer for his alleged involvement in the killing of Dariya.
His wife Sushila said that Dariya was killed in fake encounter.
She also blamed a top politician of the BJP, who was serving as a minister during the previous Bharatiya Janta Party government, of conspiracy.
