IB claims Fasih is Bhatkal’s deputy
A comprehensive dossier prepared by Indian intelligence agencies on Fasih Mehmood describes him as deputy to Yasin Bhatkal, the chief of the dreaded terror outfit in India. The dossier along with other important legal documents related to Fasih’s involvement in terror cases in India are being taken by a team of intelligence agencies to Saudi Arabia in the next few days to be handed over to their Saudi counterparts. At least two officials from Delhi police’s special cell will also be part of this delegation.
Sources said though India has already forwarded some documents to Saudi security agencies through diplomatic channels, the intelligence team will give a detailed presentation, backed by evidence, as to why Fasih’s custodial interrogation was important for which he needs to be deported to India urgently. Fasih was picked up from his house in Saudi Arabia a few months ago following a tip-off by the Indian intelligence agencies. The dossier clearly states that Fasih has been an “integral part’’ of the IM’s Darbhanga module that was smashed by intelligence agencies and the special cell in November last year. “Fasih along with some other members of this important terror module is responsible for the bomb blast at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in 2010 and the shooting on foreign tourists at Jama Masjid,’’ the document states. Importantly, the document goes on to add that Fasih had been in touch with Yasin Bhatkal during his stay in Saudi Arabia as well and arranged funds for the IM’s terror machinery India. It is suspected that Fasih might have sent the money through hawala network to fund the serial blasts in Mumbai last year.
The Indian agencies will impress upon their Saudi counterparts that since Pakistani nationals were involved in both the Mumbai bombings as well as the Jama Masjid shootout, Fasih can provide more details about the two incidents.
