'Hyderbad has potential to become India's gateway'
Hyderabad city has the potential to become the gateway of the country, top officer of GMR Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderbad said.
"Hyderabad has less than two hours of flying time to all major Indian metro cities and 3 to 5 hours flying time to Middle East and South-east Asian countries. It has a potential of becoming gateway of country," Chief Executive Officer of GMR Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Vikram Jaisinghani told reporters here on Friday.
"Hyderbad has been providing connectivity to non-metro cities in the country and also to select international destinations due to its strategic location. It is presently connected to 30 domestic and 15 international destinations," he said.
For two consecutive years in 2009-10 and 2010-11, the airport was adjudged the best among the airports, which is handling traffic to the tune of up to 15 million passengers, its Chief Executive Officer Vikram Jaisinghani said.
Launching 'Fly via Hyderabad' concept in the city, Jaisinghani said, it was launched in Pune in August 2011 and since then, the volume of traffic between Pune-Hyerabad sector has gone up 3 times.
As a part of the Temple Tourism, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) and the Jet Airways are offering convenient packages for the Tirupati promotion for air passengers. The complete package includes return ticket and darshan, he said.
