Hyderabad: Police get bomber picture
Hyderabad: CCTV footage has revealed quite clearly the facial features of one of the men who planted the bomb or improvised explosive device on a bicycle at Dilsukhnagar, said director-general of police V. Dinesh Reddy on Friday.
He said the investigators are keeping an open mind on the probe, and the crime “could be the act of jihadi terrorists or Hindu right wing fundamentalists”.
Reddy told reporters at the police headquarters on Friday: “In two different footages, we got three persons with bicycles. One footage was clear and the other one was blurred. In the clear footage, we could make out the bomber clearly. But we are yet to identify him.”
Sources said that the suspect who can be seen clearly could be an Indian Mujahideen operative of the old module, named Tabrez alias Asadullah Akthar. Tabrez is also suspected to be involved in the Mumbai and Pune bicycle blasts.
He said that the police effort was on to nab the suspects. “Our counter intelligence is getting clues. The bomber parked the bicycle 20 minutes before the explosion. The two bombs exploded with a time gap of three minutes,” the DGP said.
Cops won’t repeat Macca mistake: DGP
DGP V. Dinesh Reddy on Friday stressed that the investigators have an open mind about who planted the bombs on a bicycle at Dilsukhnagar.
“It could be the act of jihadi terrorists or Hindu right wing fundamentalists. The investigators are probing all angles. We don’t want to repeat the Macca Masjid blast probe mistake,” he said.
“It is definitely an attack by a terrorist outfit. The timer device and ammonium nitrate bomb planted on the cycle and the way in which the terrorists left the spot after planting it indicate that it is a terror attack,” he said and added, “The cycles are heavy, with a white mudguard used for carrying milk cans or used by butchers or factory workers. We have verified with the sellers in Jummerat bazaar but they couldn’t identify the cycles.”
He added that there are many areas in Hyderabad that are vulnerable to terrorist attacks. Begum Bazaar and six other places were identified by suspects already in custody in other cases. The case files of the blasts are yet to be handed over to the NIA. “We are yet to get orders for transferring the case file to NIA,” said a senior police official.
