Hyderabad cops under Centre, move draws flak
Hyderabad: Status of Hyderabad has become a ticklish issue with the TRS, BJP, MIM and TJAC not only demanding new Telangana state with 10 districts including Hyderabad as capital, but also wanting the police to be under control of the new state.
This is in contrast to Telangana Congress ministers and leaders informing the Antony Committee that they were not averse to Hyderabad as joint capital for 10 years till Seemandhra has its own capital and police under the control of Centre.
“Having taken a decision to bifurcate the state, Hyderabad should be capital of Telangana and police under its control,” Asaduddin Owaisi, MIM president said.
TJAC chairman, Prof Kodandaram said Hyderabad should be capital and in control of Telangana. “Police should also be under Telangana control,” he said.
TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who held a series of meetings with party leaders, asked them to take up “Hamara Hyderabad” campaign to ensure that the city was under control of Telangana, including the cops.
Major industries minister, J. Geetha Reddy said: “We told the Antony committee that we have no objection if police was under Central control till a new capital is built.”
She added, “We also did not agree to Rayala Telangana since it will create more problems.”
TRS MLA, K T Rama Rao rules out any compromise on Hyderabad. “If they are so attached to Hyderabad since 30 years, what about Hyderabadis who lived through 400 years? Hyderabad is not a Congress issue but that of 4 crore Telangana people. They don’t want lose rights over it,” he said.
