Husband in Army detention: Woman
Kochi: In a rare incident, the wife of an army man has moved the Kerala high court seeking a directive to the Defence Security Corps (DSC) to produce her missing husband.
Rajani of Thiruvananthapuram claimed that her husband, G. Viswanath, a soldier at DSC, had been detained by his superior officer and his mobile phone was also seized. “The senior threatened him by saying that he will be shot to death,” the wife said.
Rajani said in the habeas corpus petition that her husband was detained by the command officer of the DSC Platoon 88.
She said her husband was illegally detained after he reported corruption at the DSC to to
p defence authorities. He had been victimised after he made the “disclosures.” He was not allowed to contact his family members and his “whereabouts” were unknown, the petition said.
The petitioner argued that the attempts by her to contact her husband were in vain as the authorities were not being helpful. However, Viswanath sent a letter to Rajani through some of his colleagues in which he said he was threatened by his commanding officer. The superior officers also denied him leave on two occasions even-though he was eligible for leave, she claimed.
