High Court Judge amuse others by cleaning filthy gutter near his house
When the whole neighbourhood flirts with unhygienic conditions, this rainy season in Kerala, High Court Judge Thottathil Radhakrishnan made a surprise move on Sunday night that has amused even the Corporation workers.
On a non-working day the judge changed himself into a humble wardrobe and got down a filthy gutter near his house in Elamakkara near here. Using a small spade he cleared the overgrown weeds and dirt that had disrupted the flow in a drain.
This exemplary work by a well-known member of the judiciary forced Mayor Tony Chammany to leave his cushioned office space and reach the judge’s residence on B. T. S. Road at Girinagar near Elamakkara.
The judge however, maintained a cool demeanour saying he did nothing but, duty. “It is not a protest. I did my duty and it is a message to others. One should take care of one’s surroundings as well,” the judge told the Mayor.
The Mayor later told this paper that he was moved by the judge’s strange action. “I assured him that the corporation would do its best to complete the drainage cleaning works to avoid water logging during the monsoon,” said the Mayor.
