High alert after BSE terror threat
The Mumbai police and their anti-terror mechanisms were on high alert on Friday after an email was received by the Bombay Stock Exchange that threatened to carry out a terror attack on their building along with another attack on a Jet Airways Mumbai-Delhi flight.
The email also mentioned about a simultaneous attack to be carried out at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in New Delhi, which is hosting the ongoing Commonwealth Games.
On Friday, the Delhi police’s special cell also sent an intelligence alert to the Mumbai police regarding the same.
“We were on a high alert, but we believe it is a hoax email,” said a senior police officer. The police is now trying to trace the IP address of the computer from which the email was sent.
Without disclosing the email address of the sender, an officer said, “We are working out the location from where it was sent. The cyber cells of both the anti-terrorism squad as well as the crime branch are looking into it.”
A spokesperson of Jet Airways told this newspaper that they were not aware of such a threat.
“We are not aware of any specific threat. Also, it is our company policy not to speak on security issues,” the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, the police had taken extra care after the Goa railway police had alerted them that the two terror suspects who had dodged the Intelligence Bureau sleuths who were chasing them had left for Mumbai from Goa.
