Hazaar Annas pleased over CBI actions
The CBI’s inclusion of DMK MP Kanimozhi in the spectrum chargesheet is seen by the growing tribe of anti-corruption activists here as a shot in the arm but most insist that they would not lower their vigil to ensure that ‘justice is delivered for sure and real fast’.
“This is a victory for the media which focused on corruption and us activists fighting against this cancer. We are glad to see that even the high and mighty are being chargesheeted and made accountable for their deeds,” said Ms Sudha Ramalingam, well-known lawyer and rights activist.
Not all campaigners are willing to give full marks to the CBI, though.
For instance, former bureaucrat M.G. Devasahayam, who headed the ‘forum for electoral integrity’ during the recent polls in the state, said the ‘mass movement’ against corruption “is picking up well and that has forced the CBI to carry out the 2G probe effectively”.
A few others argue that the CBI did the Congress bidding, making it easy for the national party to get rid of the embarrassing ally should May 13 deliver a verdict in favour of Ms Jayalalithaa.
“The Congress had used the DMK cadres for the poll campaign and now the party can snap ties with the ally in case the AIADMK wins the election,” said Mr Vijay Anandh, whose Fifth Pillar had fielded anti-corruption candidates in the elections.
He said Fifth Pillar would continue to collaborate with like-minded campaigners for clean politics to ensure that the law of the land is applied to all.
